Nigerian actress Stella Damasus has shared a captivating story about her family’s history.

In a recent interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu posted on Instagram on Monday, Stella revealed that her surname was once Ojukwu but was changed during the Nigerian civil war due to safety concerns.

At the time, Stella’s family was mistaken for being related to the Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, leading to unwanted attention and potential danger.

To protect themselves, Stella’s family adopted the surname Damasus.

Stella explained: “So Damasus is my grandfather’s first name, it’s a Greek name, my original surname was Ojukwu but that changed during the Biafra war where my people were attacked in Asaba because they thought that it was the same Ojukwu as Odumekwu and all of that, the name was changed even before I was born, So I was born into Damasus and when I asked why that was the reason they gave me so I can’t do anything about it.”
