The Olugbo-in-Council has defended the Olugbo of Ugboland, Ondo State, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Obateru Akinruntan, against an article said to have been written by Sahara Reporters that the revered monarch was behind an attack launched on his subjects recently.

According to the palace council, ” it is wrong for anyone to link Oba Akinruntan to such an anormaly as the monarch is widely known as a peace lover.

”It is pertinent to note that Kabiyesi Oba  Akinruntan, the Olugbo of the Ugbo Kingdom, who is the chairman of Ondo State Council of Obas and chairman of the Yoruba Obas Conflict Resolution Council, is a promoter and lover of peace, therefore, it is very disheartening for anyone to link him to such absurdity. Every claim made in the said publication was targeted to dent the reputation Kabiyesi has built over the years,” the statement reads.

While the monarch condemned the attack on his people, he equally urged relevant security agencies to investigate the matter deeply with a view to bring to law anyone found culpable.

Meanwhile, the king was said to have been briefed about the arrest by the security agents of a prime suspect, who reportedly fired the gunshots during the mayhem.

The Council added in the statement that, ”for over eleven years on the throne, Oba Akinruntan has maintained peace and tranquility within the kingdom. As a father and guardian, linking him to an attack on his subjects is uncalled for and should be disregarded.”

The Council stressed further that the building where the attack took place was the ancestral home for the reigning Olugbo and was not occupied by any of the victims at the time of attack.

”It was not a private residence of Adebanjo Mafimisebi, who was deposed as Olugbo by the Supreme Court in 2007. The house belongs to the king on throne. Since he mounted the throne in 2009, Oba Obateru Akinruntan as the current landlord has been performing his traditional rites there,” the Council stated, adding that the place recently hosted the distribution of food items and cash as palliatives against Coronavirus pandemic to the sons and daughters of Ugboland.

The Council, therefore, appea
