Kwara North: Political Leaders Meet To Chart Way Forward

Current political office holders in Kwara North senatorial district have held interactive and consultative meetings with the people of the senatorial district to chart the way forward for the senatorial district.

 

The political leaders, who are currently holding elective and appointive offices held the interactive meeting during the weekend.

 

The senatorial district comprises Baruten, Kaiama , Edu, Patigi and Moro local governments.

, Senator Sadiq Umar who represents Kwara North in the Senate and  Hon  Umar Mohammed Bio,  Baruten/Kaiama Federal constituency attended the interactive meetings that was  held at different locations in the senatorial district.

The ‘harmonized’ interactive meeting was held   to tell the people about what the state government has done ongoing projects and the prospective projects.

It was to also get feedback from the people to enable government at all levels set its priorities right.

 

 

In his separate speeches at Kosubosu and Kaiama respectively, Danladi-Salihu emphasized the need for Kwara North people to be particular about projects that would develop the senatorial district.

 

 

‘Kwara North is hugely underdeveloped and  strategic planning is required for the current administration to succeed in its commitment to address the District’s wide infrastructural deficit and that is why we have collectively decided to engage our people on the journey so far, and get feedback on how we can better serve our supreme master (the people).

Both at the federal and state levels, the 2021 appropriation process is underway, notwithstanding the Senatorial town hall meetings, we want to get down to the grassroots to enable us set our developmental priorities rightly’ he said.

 

 

Danladi , who said the current  administration has  addressed  water problems in Baruten and several parts of Kwara North to a large extent also listed the Kwara state University – KWASU, Ilesha campus, Ilesha Baruba – Budo Kpanu road, Ilesha-Bode-Babanne-Gwasoro road, Okuta township road among  projects  billed to receive attention in the 2021 appropriation.

The State government has also according to him been making  efforts to improve mobile phone reception  in Baruten  and  Kaiama communities while it has  provided  ambulances for two cottage hospitals in Baruten and also approved   comprehensive rehabilitation of the General Hospital, Okuta, and the  Basic Health Centres at  Gwanara and Kosubosu.

‘Solar streetlight electrification project has been approved and would be executed at the local government ward headquarters soon.

 

 

The present government aims to continue on the path of changing developmental narratives of Kwara North regardless of personal interests, we challenge all leaders of Kwara North to develop and present developmental template to the government and not political positions ahead of next general election, because we need to justify why we were elected in 2019 before we can talk about 2023.

 

 

It is however normal for detractors to make distractive attempt and also normal for a serious government to be focused’ he submitted.

 

 

Speaking at the palaces of the Emirs of Ilesha – Baruba, Okuta and Kaima, Danladi-Salihu thanked  the traditional rulers  for their ‘progressive roles’  in ensuring that the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration succeeds and urged them to continue  to pray  for and advise the government when there is a need to do such.

Senator Sadiq Umar said the gathering ‘represents the vision of Kwara North which is that of a people challenged by underdevelopment, committed to work together and attract development for our dear people’.

 

 

He added that Governor Abdulrazaq’s openness , responsive leadership and commitment  to address Kwara North’s huge infrastructural deficit is known to all and that  Kwara North must   seize the opportunity.

Rep Omar Mohammed Bio, Hon Halidu Danbaba, Hon Ahmed Saidu Baba and others   took turns to talk about steps they have taken to ensure their constituents enjoy dividends of democracy while urging the people not to hesitate to share developmental ideas with their representatives at all levels.

‘All of you are very serious, I am convinced this government is sincere and I  appreciate the passionate commitment of the Hon Speaker  Danladi Salihu to  the development of Baruten and Kwara North. Kwara North must be united and that is what we need. We need to take our destiny into our hands. We cannot have a government without distraction, but your sincerity will make you overcome them’ Emir of Ilesha, His Royal Highness, Prof Haliru Abubakar also said.

 

 

 

Giving his remarks,  Emir of Okuta, His Royal Highness, Alhaji  Idris Abubakar Shero  applauded  and commended the political office holders for holding the  consultative meeting  while assuring the government of the Emirate’s 100% support to ensure it succeeds.

The Emir of Kaiama, His Royal Highness, Alhaji  Umar Muazu  not only lauded  the initiative but also submitted   that it was the first time political leaders would come to interface with the people after  getting elected.

He asked Allah to continue to empower them to fulfill their campaign promises.

APC Chairman,  Baruten local government , Abubakar Setraco appreciated the political office holders for interacting with the people  while emphasizing the significance of leadership – followership interaction in modern democracy.

 

 

Chairman, Organizing Committee, Hon Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi had earlier said the forum  was  meant to foster unity for developmental purpose under the leadership of Governor AbdulRazaq, while advising politicians  from  Kwara North not to engage in  politics of underdevelopment  he added that  they should only advocate for what will be advantageous to all.

The Durbin Kaiama – Alh. Abdulrahman Wali in his submission called for improved funding of local security and thanked the State government for the developmental projects in Kaiama, while promising continued support.

Kaiama and Baruten youth representatives; Musa Abunakar Tasuki and Abubakar Abdulrahman in their separate remarks appreciated the government for the projects executed in Kaiama and Baruten local governments they however asked for more.

The youth leaders however  demanded equal distribution of projects, appointments and employment among the three geopolitical zones in the state.

 

 

Kwara state lawmakers from the senatorial district, commissioners, heads and members of   statutory boards and commissions, party leaders and executives, youth and women also attended the interactive meetings.
