The Gambian President, Adama Barrow, has appointed Fatoumata Tambajang as the vice president of the country.

Fatoumata is regarded as the ‘iron lady’ of the Adama Barrow-led new government.

Following the victory of Barrow last December, Fatoubarrowmata was the only resonating voice on the exiled former president, Yahya Jammeh’s future, as the first press interview she granted the media reportedly was one of the strongest factors that drove Jammeh to make a reverse on his earlier acceptance of Barrow’s victory at the poll.

Fatoumata, then the chair of the country’s new ruling coalition, in the interview, said “Jammeh will be prosecuted for his crimes within a year of handing over the reins of government in January.”

Fatoumata added that “on his farm, in Kanilai, close to the Senegalese border, Jammeh had the bunkers and treasure to start an insurgency and the coalition feared he could move weapons out of the country. He can’t leave. If he leaves, he’s going to escape us.”

Sources said the new president was confident that with Fatoumata as his vice, the new government is a safe hand.

Her appointment was with immediate effect.
