Residents of New Bussa, headquarters of the Borgu Kingdom are in a happy and joyous mood. The Borgu kingdom experienced a great loss last month when news came that the immediate past Emir, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro had passed on in Germany.
The demise of the former minister and close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu left a big vacuum and naturally it threw open the seat for contest.
It was good news for loyalists, associates and foot soldiers of the late Emir as the choice of new Emir was zeroed on his eldest surviving son, Mohammed Sani. He was turbaned on Saturday, 21st November.
The new Emir of Borgu, a Barrister-at-law is described by many as a jolly good fellow. Signs of good days in the palace emerged within a week after his appointment. The new Emir, according to a source bought and distributed about a hundred motorcycles to palace aides, workers and other people. He also reportedly gave instruction for payment of electricity bills of buildings near the palace.
Meanwhile, a reliable source hinted that having the new Emir succeeded his late father was an agenda of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in honour of his late confidant. Mindful and conscious of the scenarios that produced Alhaji Ishiaku Musa Jikantoro who was later sacked by the court, he diplomatically carried the kingmakers along in the scheme. During his visit, he according to a source gave the kingmakers N7million for logistic demands which were a veiled way of ‘settling’ them. Many of the stakeholders also reasoned that the interest of the city would be better protected with the late Emir’s son as new Emir as he would sustain contact and rapport with the nation’s current power brokers.
