There was truly no time when and if MD would ever get round to make this wedding happen. What if he remains in morbid fear of his wife and just could never find the balls to tell her he wants to get legally married to me? What am I supposed to do then, remain his mistress forever? No, something had to happen! I have to make that wedding happen. MD thinks he already owns me and there’s no way I would pay attention to another man let alone cheat on him by having another relationship. But right now, I am starting to think that, perhaps a little competition, something to make MD’s heart beat hard against his chest in fear, is what he needs to jolt him back to his senses.  That’s exactly what I am going to give to him.

A very mischievous smile lit up my face. I was happy. I was excited. I had found the answer I was looking for. Aunty Meg was watching me closely, puzzled by the sudden glow on my face. She couldn’t understand why, all of a sudden, my face beamed with a smile.

“Anita, what is it? Why are you smiling to yourself?” she asked, eager to know what was going on in my mind.

“I have got the answer! I think I know what to do to get MD to get back to his senses,” I answered, still smiling.

“And what could that be?”

I let the smile on my face get even bigger. “MD needs a little competition, he needs something that will remind him how precious I am to him….”

“What exactly do you have in mind, Anita, stop beating around the bush and I hope you’re not planning to do something stupid here” Aunty Meg urged me to say my mind.

I paused a while and said to her with a note of finality in my voice, “Yes, Aunty Meg, it’s stupid but it’s the perfect plan. I am going to get myself a new boyfriend and I will make sure MD meets him!”

I couldn’t help but start laughing. Me, get my fingers burnt? I shook my head. This woman doesn’t know what she is talking about. I already have everything all mapped out.

“You want to know if I have somebody in mind or if I am dating someone before now?” I asked her, smiling.

“Yes, now, because I am confused about all these you’re saying,” she returned, looking intently at me.

“It’s okay, Aunty, let me explain to you what I plan to do, ” I said to her. She adjusted herself on the chair, giving me intense attention. She was really curious and eager to hear what I had to say. And in fairness to her, Aunty Meg was also pretty much worried about me. She didn’t want me to do something that would totally wreck my relationship with MD, or at the very least, what was left of it.

“To start with, Aunty Meg, I am not going to get my fingers or any part of me for that matter, burnt,” I assured her, sounding very serious and confident about what I was saying. “I have taken my time to think through very carefully what I have in mind, its foolproof, it can’t definitely back fire like you’re afraid of. The whole idea is to get MD to come back to his senses and do the right thing, that’s all,” I added with an obvious note of confidence.

Aunty Meg sighed. She still was not convinced with what I was saying. She needed me to convince her some more. From the puzzled look on her face, she still clearly didn’t approve of me to go ahead with whatever plan I had in my head, except of course if I could convince her some.

“Okay o, madam,” she retorted, obviously showing the disapproval in her voice. “I have heard you, you’re confident there won’t be any problem, I hear you. But I am not yet convinced. And there’s still one important question I asked you which you are yet to give an answer to….”

I stared blankly at her. “Which question is that, please, remind me.”

“I asked you, who is this man that you want to use to play this very dangerous game that you want to play? Is he somebody I know? Where does he stay? How did you get to know him?”|

I raised up my right hand in the air to stop her from firing more questions at me. “Haba, Aunty Meg, exactly how many questions do you now want me to answer at the same time?”

“Alright, sorry, please, answer the questions I asked you, I won’t ask any other question,” she promised.

“First, who is the man and is he somebody you know?” I paused for a while and then coughed slightly to clear my throat. “Yes, you know him. He is somebody you know very well…”

“Oh, really? I know him? So, who is it then, tell me, Anita,” she was dying to know who the person is.

I took my time, let a few seconds roll past and then revealed the identity of the man in question.

“The person I am talking about is Prince James…..”

“Ehn?” Aunty Meg cut in before I was done talking. “Which Prince James are you talking about, Anita?”

“Same Prince James, the same one you know, Aunty Meg!”

Aunty Meg stared at me, speechless, then suddenly, she screamed, “No waaayyy, Anita, no way!”

Aunty Meg was still unsure what to make of the news I just broke to her. She opened her mouth to speak but no word came forth. She was really, really shocked to her marrow.

“Anita, listen to me and please, listen very carefully,” she was set for what I knew would be an earful of lecture.

“Do you realise that it’s a big risk you’re taking here? This guy, James, is not one for you to mess him with, I know him, he is a Don!”

I looked at her with a smirk on my face. “He’s a Don, how? I don’t understand that part?”

She shrugged. “Okay, you don’t understand, abi?” She quipped. “So’ that James that you’re seeing there, does he look to you like somebody you can just play with and use him to fight MD? Does he look to you like a mumu who will allow you come around him without trying to get a bite of you?”

I nodded. “I agree with you that he will definitely want to get a bite of me, after all, he’s a man now and he has blood flowing through his veins. But I believe I can handle him,” I answered brimming with confidence.

Aunty Meg was not convinced. “So, you think you can handle that man that is well known in the neighbourhood, a very notorious man like that for that matter?”

I was beginning to get irritated. The woman simply does not understand what I am going through with MD.

“Tell me, Aunty Meg, what makes him notorious? What makes him a terrible person?” I almost shouted at her.

“Anita, you know I cannot see you taking a wrong step that could backfire and not try to dissuade you from taking that step,” she said more quietly this time.

“Listen to me, you see that James you’re seeing so is a chronic womaniser, a very randy and reckless man. All he does is move from one joint to the other carrying different kinds of women, is that the kind of guy you want to be seen with? And he is not even in the same class with MD.”

I shook my head in disagreement. “It’s not about class, Aunty Meg, it’s about what will achieve the desired results.”

I went further. “And for crying out loud, the guy is not that bad. He is a fine guy and a lot of people respect him in the area.”

Aunty Meg looked curiously at me. She appeared stunned by something I said.

“Did you just say he is not a bad guy and that people respect him in the neighbourhood? You even said the guy is fine, abi?” She asked, her gaze settling deep on my face

“Anita, listen to me, if you’re not careful, you will get yourself into big trouble o!,” she warned.

“It’s like you really like this guy o, you really fancy him, don’t you? Be honest with me, you really like this guy, right?”
