A total number of studious 250 Nigerian readers have gathered at the Herbert Macaulay Library, Yaba, Lagos for the celebration of this year’s World Book Day.
And this year, 2018, one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, GTBank is supporting the reading culture through its ‘You Read’ initiative with the aim of empowering a Nigerian for the Guinness Book of Records Read Aloud Marathon Attempt.
World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly it’s a celebration of reading.
The ongoing 2018 World Book Day is being celebrated by the GTBank You Read Initiative at the
Herbert Macaulay Library with reading of books from Nigeria Authors by Olubayode Treasures Olawunmi, who is currently undertaking the Guinness World Record longest Read Aloud Marathon Attempt and students from various schools in the environ.
The library was also packed to capacity, with over 250 readers.
The Guinness World Record for the Longest Marathon Read Aloud is being attempted by 40 year old Olubayode Treasures Olawunmi. The attempt is proudly supported by the GTBank YouREAD Initiative, a CSR initiative which the Bank launched in 2017 to rekindle the interest in reading.
Since 2008, Deepak Sharma Bajaan has held the world record in book
reading after he read a total of 17 books in 113 hours and 15 minutes. Now, Nigeria’s Olubayode is taking a shot at breaking the World Record by reading over 15 Nigerian published books in 120 hours over a period of 6 days at the Herbert Macaulay Library, Yaba.
He started the challenge on Monday 26th February, 2018 at exactly 1.30pm Nigerian time. So far, he has read nine books including Toni Kan’s The Carnivorous City, Sarah Ladipo Manyika’s Independence, Leye Adenle’s Easy Motion Tourist, Elnathan John’s Born on a Tuesday amongst many others.
Last week (1st March) is the 3rd day of his marathon attempt and the man who hails from Ogun State and married with 3 kids has done over 72 hours of reading.
