A former Presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba has disclosed that amnesty should be extended to bandits, who are currently on a kidnapping spree in the North.

Adamu Garba made this known yesterday via his verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

‘‘Yes, rehabilitation, reintegration and training is what these bandits needs, similar to the way Niger Delta Militants are handled,’’ Adamu Garba has tweeted on Sunday.

The position held by the controversial Garba, who has made a few hair-raising comments on social media; comes in opposition to that publicly expressed by President Muhammadu Buhari; who has openly declared his unwillingness to extend amnesty to bandits and terrorists.

Buhari, who made the assertion on Thursday, February 25, at a security meeting in Kaduna; had disclosed the determination of his administration to rein in the rising spate of insecurity in the country.

Further, he had stated that his administration would continue to deal decisively with insurgents, bandits, and kidnappers.

“The government shall continue to deal with insurgents, bandits, kidnappers; as well as other criminals that constitute a threat to innocent citizens across the country. Criminals are criminals and should be dealt with accordingly without resorting to ethnic profiling. I have already tasked the new service chiefs to devise new strategies that will end this ugly situation; where the lives of our people continue to be threatened by hoodlums and criminals,’’ Buhari had stated.

However, the comments by Adamu Garba, which many had also condemned, seemed to equate the activities of Niger Delta militants, which targeted the sabotage of oil exploration activities in the region to that of bandits who have now concentrated on the abduction of students in the North.
