The much speculated plot by the Kano State ruling government of All Progressives Congress (APC)  to literally clip the royal wings of the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, may not be totally untrue after all, as the State’s House of Assembly has reportedly made a move to enable a law creating new Emirates.

In a petition filed before the assembly, the Ibrahim Salisu & Chambers is seeking for the assembly to decentralised Kano Emirate to four;  Gaya, Bichi, Rano and Karaye respectively in view of what was referred to as the developmental advantages embedded in the gesture.

The letter read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Alhassan during the impromptu plenary, said that “decentralizing Kano Emirate will draw the remote and historic emirate closer to the state government, which in turn will enhance security and developmental aspects.”

Meanwhile, the opposition is alleging that the move was meant to embarrass Emir Sanusi who was suspected to have worked against the second term bid of the State governor, Alhaji Ganduje, in the last election.

While contributing in favour of the motion, Hon. Zakari Muhammad from Tarauni Constituency said the incorporation of the aforementioned Emirates, in the same monarchical standard with Kano Emirate is appropriate and timely in view of progress been made in neighbouring states where the decentralisation is bearing fruits of developments.

While members from Takai, Dawakin Tofa, Rimin-Gado, Municipal, Nassarawa and Tudun Wada were unanimously in support of the move to upgrade the status of Rano, Gaya, Bichi and Karaye to become equal in power as far as their emirate status is concerned, the former speaker, Hon. Ali Danja from Gezawa said the opposition is totally not in support of the plan, saying the motive of the gesture is fully political and shrouded in secrecy.
