*As 21 Year-Old OOU Undergrad Emerges Winner of Beauty Contest

The ancient community of Ago Iwoye was a beehive of activities recently as dignitaries from all walks of life, comprising of traditional rulers, captains of industry, various interest groups and fashionpreneurs graced the grand finale of the much-talked-about Ijebu Fashion Festival.

 

The event which has garnered momentum beyond Ogun State in recent times is the brainchild of Miss Ayokunle Maraiyesa, a stylish, fashion enterpreneur who has carved a niche for herself through dint of hard work.

 

Dignitaries who graced the occasion include the traditional ruler of Ago Iwoye, Oba Abdulrasaq Adenugba; SAF Petroleum CEO, Aare Safiriyu Adebanjo Kazeem; Olori Nike Adenugba; Col Ogunsanwo; Chairman of Ijebu North local government, Hon Bolaji Odusanya; Managing Director of Bibire Groups, Prince Abiola Osunneye; Col Ademola Onalaja and many others.

Speaking at the event, Ayokunle said her team was determined to change the face of fashion business in the state by launching local creativity to the global market.

 

According to her, “I have never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Today, with the help of God, my team and I are changing the fashion history in Ijebu land. Fashion has evolved to be one of the most thriving global industries in the world.

 

We are glad that a platform that recognizes, promotes and empowers fashion entrepreneurship is birthed today. I want to believe this platform will continue to grow and launch local creativity into the limelight they deserve.

 

It’s a compendium of different activities and that is why it’s a festival. It entails different fashion activities such as game festival, trade fair, masterclasses, fashion show, pageantry, art performances and body art”, she concluded.

 

Meanwhile, a 21 year old 400 level female undergraduate of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, has emerged the winner of the first edition of the Ijebu Fashion Festival beauty contest.

 

Olufodun Oluwabusayomi Azeezat, studying early childhood education, became the beauty queen among other 10 contestants drawn from different communities in Ijebuland.
