Adekunle Mojeed Akinola; seeks government help against threat to family members’ lives

A Nigerian man, Akinola Mojeed Adekunle, is seeking the assistance of the Ireland authorities to move his wife and three children to the country from Nigeria. Adekunle alleged that he is being hunted by members of a cult group back in Nigeria for rejecting their invitation to become a member.

In an SOS message sent from his base in Dublin, Adekunle narrated his experience in the hands of the cult group since he stumbled on them accidentally in their meeting sometime in the night of August 2021.

According to the former oil station manager, his refusal to heed the group’s call had cost him the lives of his aged father, mother and second son. Adekunle disclosed in his message that they threatened to kill his father, mother and members of his family if he refused to join their group. However, he did not take their warning seriously until they struck, killing his father. Yet, despite relocating his family to different locations within Nigeria in order to escape further attacks, two other members of his family; his mother and son, were unlucky as the gang who he alleged tracked them to their different places of refuge, also killed them both. He narrowly escaped to Dublin late January 6th, 2022 where he has been making frantic efforts to locate his wife and children who were scattered since the murder of their son.

Below is Adekunle’s story;

My name is Akinola Mojeed Adekunle. I was born on November 21, 1984. I am from Ilobu town in Irepodun Local Government of Osun State. I live in Lagos State at No 5, Baale Mudashiru Jogudu Street, opposite LASPOTECH First Gate, Odogunyan in Ikorodu town. I am married to Akinola Sarah Oluwafunke and our union has produced four children, two males and two females. They are Akinola Khaleed Ayomide, Akinola Akeeb Ayinde, Akinola Hatiyat Anjolaoluwa and Akinola Zarat Michelle.

I worked as manager with one of Simart Petroleum gas stations in Ikorodu, Lagos.  Students from LASPOTECH were tenants in my area including where I live. There were also young guys who are not students living within the same compound. My father, Akinola Gbadamosi Adeyemo and mother, Akinola Sikirat Aduke were also living in the building next to mine.

On August 18, 2021, I returned home from work, took my bath and ate dinner and was relaxing with my wife and children in my apartment. Then the electricity went out. In the compound, there were guys who were also tenants and very close to my family. So, as I left the room to switch on my generator in the compound, I bumped into some guys in the compound who all wore blue outfits and blue beret caps. I saw the colour of their wears because I had turned on the generator already. I knew instantly from experience that they were cultists. To my chagrin, some of these guys were those I said were close to my family. They are Olawoyin Saheed a.k.a. Iku; Sunday Mustapha a.k.a. Geleti; Alani Suraju Olatayo a.k.a. Osho and Adeyanju Kazeem a.k.a. Cutlass. I couldn’t run back inside immediately because of fear of the unknown. So, I pretended as if I didn’t see them.

As I was going back inside after turning on the generator, I heard voices from their direction asking me to come back but I was too terrified to answer the call. So, I ran back into my apartment. I later narrated the episode to my wife. The next morning when I was preparing for my workplace, I noticed that Saheed was already waiting for me to come out from my apartment. I summoned the courage and came out. He then told me that he knew that I saw him with his guys last night, and if anyone sees them in that manner, such a person must either become one of them or be ready to die. I became more panicky and before I could mutter a reply he had left me on the spot. This is a guy with whom I used to freely chat and throw banters.

I later found out that the Saheed group was Eiye. In Ikorodu, particularly, both Eiye and Aye confraternities regularly engage in deadly fights. From then on, I became very worried and I could no longer focus on my job and family. Some weeks after my encounter with Saheed, I started receiving threat letters from the Eiye group warning me to become a member. The last one they pasted on my door when no one was at home, I was given three days to meet them at a secret location, otherwise they were going to start by killing my father, mother, wife and children.

When the threats became persistent, I decided to relocate my wife and children from the compound. They were moved to my parents’ place and I started squatting with friends at different locations. Not long after we relocated, the group invaded my parents’ apartment and axed my father to death. This left me utterly dejected. I stopped going to work because I wouldn’t know where next they were going to strike. After the killing of my father, I relocated my mother, wife and children to my sister, Akinola Suliyat Aduke’s place at Agric area in the same Ikorodu town. I also left Lagos State and moved to my elder brother, Akinola Ismail Olaide’s place in Abuja. While my family members were being moved from Ikorodu, I didn’t know that they were watching us. They trailed my mother, wife and children to their new location where they also strangled my mother to death with a pillow. While all of these were happening, I reported to the police and they launched investigations into the case.

Again, in October 2021, I moved my sister, wife and kids to stay with my brother, Akinola Sulaimon Olanrewaju who lives in Imota. At the same time, I had left Abuja to Port Harcourt to stay with an area brother, Olaniyan Sikiru, because of the fear that those people could locate me in Abuja based on their strong connections. The worst of this situation of my life was that these people also trailed my family to Imota and macheted my second child, a male, Akinola Akeeb Ayinde, in the head while sleeping till he died. I was told that the group met them all sleeping outside Brother Sulaimon’s house while taking fresh air as there was no light then, and killed the boy there. After that incident, everybody was dispersed and Brother Sulaimon, the owner of the house, even abandoned his apartment and up till now, I cannot locate my wife and the kids..

It was in the middle of this tragic situation that a travel agent was introduced to me who then helped me to process a Dublin Visa before I could escape from Nigeria.

Presently, I have asked friends to help locate my wife and children in Nigeria and I also need the help of Dublin authority to be able to relocate my wife and children from Nigeria. I don’t want anything to happen to the rest of them.”
