Canada Based Nigerian Publisher, Segun Akanni, Honoured by Toronto City

The City of Toronto has honoured a Nigerian man based in Canada, Prince Segun Akanni.
Prince Akanni, the publisher of The Drum Online news medium, was honoured in the North American country on September 1, 2019, for his excellence, leadership and devotion to others.
The chairman of Scarborough Community Council, Honourable Jim Karygiannis, says ”Akanni’s contribution serves to strengthen the community Nigerians in the diaspora are making Nigeria proud and changing the narrative positively as they go about their daily activities wherever they find themselves.”
As the city councillor for Scarborough-Agincourt, I’m pleased to recognise individuals who have made contributions towards building a strong and dynamic city.”
On his Facebook page, Akanni wrote:

Prince Segun Akanni, was the Chief of Staff to Aare Gani Adams, The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland. Akanni, it is recalled, was attacked on June 5th, 2019 by members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) on the allegation that he got the sum of N200m (two hundred million naira) from Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State to get rid of Adams. Segun Akanni said the allegation was baseless and frivolous, while he challenged those behind it to present their proofs.
Segun Akanni who is also the Executive Director of The Global Forum for Human Rights and Sustainable Development(GFHRSD), a nonprofit and non governmental organization, has attended many conferences, seminars and workshops, such as United Nations CSW63 (2019), The sixty-third session of the Commission on the Status of Women which took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in 2019, New York Build Conference in The USA 2019, Canada, India, USA Trilateral conference among others, through The Global Forum for Human Rights and Sustainable Development.

Top traditional rulers and well meaning Nigerians have been congratulating him on the honour. They include His Royal Majesty Oba Adebayo Adewole Joseph, The Owa Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, HRM Oba Oyelude Hameed Makama, Olowu of Kuta.
