One of the foot soldiers of former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, Tunji Buhari resigned as Organizing Secretary of the Kwara State PDP  last week.

He did this via a letter dated June 28, 2021, which was addressed to the state chairman, Hon. Kola Shittu.

‘I wish to inform you of my intention to resign from my position as Organizing Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.

I have taken this decision to allow me focus more on family and business interests. I thank the party leadership most sincerely for the opportunity to serve in various capacities in the last few years’, he submitted.

We learned Tunji called it quits in order to have a ‘clean slate’ to play a role in  Malam Salihu Mustapha campaign. Mustapha is an APC national chairmanship aspirant.

Buhari, apart from being Salihu’s mentee, has also become somewhat his family friend.  They are both from Gambari Ward, Ilorin East local government.

The defunct Congress for Progressive Change, (CPC) was one of the political parties that fused into APC and while Salihu was the Deputy National Chairman of the CPC, Tunji was Chairman of Kwara State chapter.

Following the emergence of the APC as ruling party in Kwara State in 2014, Tunji was chosen as state PRO of the party; he, however, followed suit when former Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki left the APC for PDP in 2018.

We reliably gathered that Tunji has taken decision to leave the PDP in order to play active role in Salihu Mustapha campaign leveraging on his status as former Kwara State CPC chairman.

He plans to ensure former CPC state chairmen come together to support Salihu Mustapha
