Award-Winning Actress, Chizzy Akudolu, Mo Effanga in BBC’s popular drama ‘Holby City’

Chizzy Akudolu stars as the warm-hearted Mo Effanga in the BBC drama Holby City. In the past few years, Chizzy has won and been nominated for many awards for her portrayal of Mo, including winning Best Newcomer, at the Black International Film and Music Video & Screen awards, Best Actress at the BEFFTA Awards and a nomination for Best newcomer at the NTA’s.

The show follows the lives of medical and ancillary staff at the fictional Holby City Hospital and has won 12 awards, including The BAFTA for Best Continuing Drama. Chizzy’s character, Mo Effanga’s personal life is often disorganised and chaotic but she is an excellent doctor.

Chizzy has previously appeared in Eastenders, Dead Set and as the unconventional Fairy Godmother, Cookie in Jinx.  In 2002, she entered and was selected for an initiative called BBC Talent, in which they were auditioning for comic performers and writers. This led to The Urban Sketch Show, a showcase performed at the Tabernacle Theatre. Her first TV credit came soon after, a small role in 15 Storeys High for the BBC.

More credits soon followed, including a cameo in the critically acclaimed, In The Loop and The Inbetweeners. Chizzy recently starred in, wrote and produced the short film 5 Minutes and Life’s a Bitch, under her production company, Don’t Give Up Your Day Job.
