Mojisola Lasbat Meranda has finally resigned as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, paving the way for the return of Mudashiru Obasa, who was ousted from office.
Meranda tendered her resignation during Monday’s plenary session following intense pressure from All Progressives Congress (APC) power brokers.
Her exit marks a major victory for Obasa, who had been aggressively pushing for reinstatement despite strong opposition from lawmakers.
Earlier, Meranda presided over Monday’s plenary shortly after a high-stakes meeting with Obasa, Lagos State Attorney General Lawal Pedro (SAN), and 38 lawmakers.
Earlier today, heavily armed security operatives were deployed to the Assembly complex to prevent any possible breakdown of law and order as the power struggle unfolded.
With Meranda stepping down, Obasa is now set to officially reclaim his position as Speaker, despite fierce opposition within the Assembly.
