Roughly sixteen days after the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative [PCNI], Lt. Gen T. Y. Danjuma [rtd] GCON, made a public commentary on his observed misnomer in the polity, particularly how far he felt the military has been handling the herdsmen’s menace in the Middle Belt states, the military finally decided to act on Danjuma’s allegations, as the Buratai-led military has constituted a 10-man panel to investigate the former army chief’s allegations.

However, General Danjuma reportedly resigned his appointment abruptly. His action is considered an embarrassment to the Buhari regime.

The Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative – PCNI was established by President Muhammadu Buhari to serve as the primary national strategy, coordination and advisory body for all humanitarian interventions, transformational and developmental efforts in the North-East region of Nigeria. But the PCNI has had its share of troubles. It suffered undue corruption by its handlers.

Danjuma had, in Jalingo, Taraba State, a few days ago, expressed his displeasure with the security forces and the alleged infestation of aided killings across the country. He stated that the armed forces in Taraba and other states are colluding with killers and marauding herdsmen, and that they were not protecting the people against attacks.

Following Danjuma’s call, some Nigerians hailed his pronunciation while the majority tagged his statement, a call for anarchy.

The 10-man committee set up by the army, we learnt, may have come to being in response to the call and eventual resignation of Danjuma as PINE chairman.
