Actor Femi Branch Set for 50th B'day Bash, Revives Stage Theatre with 'Kunme the Musical', Three Other Plays

Star Actor, Femi Branch, is currently orchestrating ideas to resuscitate the theatre play that has gone into extinction for decades with the rebirth of Femi Branch Playfest 2020.


Femi said in a media briefing in Lagos that he was planning the stage theatre rebirth in a new dimension that would see him go on a ten-city tour with his biggest stage play yet titled ‘Kunme The Musical’.

The festival, billed to commemorate the fine actor’s 50th birthday will kick off on Friday, 3rd of April till Sunday 21st of June, 2020, we learned.

According to the actor, the tour would take a one week break in Lagos from Monday 25th to Sunday, 31st of  May, 2020, for the festival proper which shall feature performances by different selected acts with Femi Branch’s other plays such as PO, Shalanga, Jungle Justice and Ankara Committee, while the final performance would be tour play, Kunme The Musical.

”We hope to kick start the audition with 50 students from Ile-Ife at Obafemi Awolowo University from theatre, fine arts and music departments. The tour shall kick start in Ife on 3rd to 5th of April; Akure on 10th to 12th April; Ado Ekition 17th to 19th April; Ibadan 24th to 26th April; Abeokuta 1st to 3rd May; Ijebu Ode 8th to 10th May; Ikorodu 15th to 17th May; Badagry 22nd to 24th May; Benin 12th to 14th June then Abuja on 19th till 21st,” Femi explained.

Femi explaining his passion for the stage play, said his career was built on stage theatre and “I initiated this festival in two cardinal folds; first, to build a mentorship programme in order to develop and nurture young talents selected from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife through Femi Branch Master Class. And, secondly, to mark my 50th birthday anniversary.”
