As the all-new Abule-Egba 1.5 km flyover bridge and adjoining road networks built by the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s government in less than one year are set for commissioning on Wednesday, 17th of May 2017, residents of Abule Egba have sent a Save-Our-Soul message to the governor ahead of the ground-breaking ceremony.
As we have gathered, people living on adjoining streets which served as alternate routes for vehicular movements have raised the alarm over the current state of their roads which they said were destroyed by trailer trucks, tankers and other heavy-laden vehicles that made use of them while the construction of the bridge lasted.
According to a statement circulated by concerned residents of these streets, lots of incidents happened whilst the vehicles were diverted to these roads. They claimed that trailers carrying containers and petro-laden tankers regularly fell on the roads thereby causing heavy gridlock and spills of liquid products got the roads messed up. Worse, according to them, is that most of the roads got destroyed and made impassable by these incidents.
They, therefore, called on Gov. Ambode to ‘save us by helping to fix our streets because we carried the burden while the construction was ongoing and so we should not be made to suffer for it’.
Some of the affected streets listed include, Progress College Road, Babs Ogunwole, Olayiwola, Charity, Social Club, Olaniyi, Agbe, Sola Martins, Ekoro Road, Agric, Beckley, and more.
We were unable to reach any of the Lagos government officials for comments as we put this together.
