This was courtesy of the Aliko Dangote Foundation.

Each of the beneficiaries received N10,000 cash grant and it was done on the basis of  1000 women per local government.

This resulted in the injection of N10,000,000  into  the economy of each of the sixteen local councils and a total of N160m into the economy of  the state.

The flag off of the disbursement of the cash grant was held at Bode Saadu, Moro local government.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi asked corporate organizations and well-heeled individuals to continue to support the government in lifting as many people as possible out of poverty while submitting that partnerships with private sector would greatly help to tackle poverty.

The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Community Development, Mr.  Kayode Oyin-Zubair said the cash grant was in line with the programmes of the state government aimed at improving the welfare of rural women.

Group Executive Director, Government and Strategic Relations, Aliko Dangote Group, Engineer  Mansur Ahmed also submitted that  the event was part of  the  N10bn programme designed to fight poverty and hunger in Nigeria by the Aliko Dangote Foundation.

‘We are empowering 16,000 women (that’s 10000 vulnerable women selected from each of the 16 local governments). The micro grant is one of the components of economic empowerment pillars of the Aliko Dangote Foundation.

We will provide vulnerable women so identified by your selection committee one-off grant of N10,000  which we hope will either be used to expand businesses or start new ones. We hope this will help to eliminate poverty.

We want to extend the N10bn programme to every state in Nigeria with beneficiaries from each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria, we intend to work with relevant stakeholders and state authorities to identify and select 1000 vulnerable women in particular and give them one-off grant of N10,000 each.

This, we hope will bring these women out of poverty’, he said.
