…Tasks Stakeholders To Be Proactive

Hon. Joseph Akinlaja

Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream, Hon Joseph Akinlaja out of sheer patriotism has advocated freight intelligence, dedicated parking lots and truck control system to solve perennial traffic gridlock in the country occasiomed by petrol tankers and other articulated vehicles.

He also called on the Federal government, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other relevant agencies in the industry to explore better and alternative options in the products’ distribution network so as to bring respite to all road users just as he admonished members of the public not to see tanker drivers as troublesome or reclacitrant players in the oil and gas downstream value chain.

The Ondo Federal lawmaker at a traffic summit held recently in Niger State which was meant to work out strategies for unlocking traffic gridlocks in the country also identified lack of adequate infrastructure as part of the reasons for the prevailing congestion witnessed daily by Nigerians.

At a time like this, such true-hearted and firm call became necessary as traffic congestion affects both private and public transport users and produces losses in terms of economic efficiency and other negative social effects like road accidents and traffic induced robbery.

Those at the event were Alhaji (Dr) Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya, National President of Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, Comrade Lucky Osesua- Deputy National Chairman of National Chairman of Petroleum Tanker Drivers branch of NUPENG ( PTD), former PTD National Chairman, Alhaji Tijani Zuberu, and a very large crowd consisting both PTD and NARTO chieftains and members.
