Ahead of the elections, tension is rising in Osun State as clashes are being recorded.  A recent one was the one recorded in Ibokun headquarters of Obokun local government.  The state PDP alleged that the allegations made against its candidate for House of Representatives seat, Obokun/Oriade federal constituency, Wole Oke and the titillating accounts mischievously fed the people by the APC are nothing but a tissue of lies.

‘The true account of what happened was that the APC candidate in Ijesa North Federal Constituency, Dr. Siji Olamiju, who is also the proprietor of AKOL Pharmacy was at Ipetu-Ile, Ward 2, Obokun Local Government, the crowd he met there  was not encouraging as they were only about 25  APC thugs. Olamiju who didn’t consider it reasonable giving out money to those  who could not mobilize people for his rally despite what he had given the party leaders in the Ward simply released N2,000 to the people present to the consternation of the youths who had obviously expected a higher amount. The angry youths started singing abusive songs and  shooting sporadically into the air forcing Olamiju and his team to hurriedly leave the scene and move to Ibokun Ward 1 . At the Ibokun roundabout, Olamiju again released a paltry sum of N3,000 which got them annoyed and they wasted no time in registering presence by firing into the air,  the gunshot sound effects attracted the attention of the Divisional Police Officer, Ibokun Police station who moved to the scene of the incident .

The Divisional Police Officer was in his private wine colour Toyota Highlander Jeep, trying to caution the political thugs and explaining the position of the law regarding illegal use and possession of fire arms but rather than taking him serious, they descended on him and in order to escape being killed, the DPO was said to have allegedly shot one of them which made the political thugs fled. Some of the vehicles belonging to Siji Olamiju and other branded vehicles of the APC candidates and some other attackers of the DPO were consequently seized and  confiscated and they are still being kept by the police’, the party said.   Also speaking on the incident,  Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke said it was surprising that in spite of being in town  he could still be accused of leading an assault on the DPO  who he said he had never met.   Oke, however, advised the police authorities to investigate the incident and allow the law to take its course.   ‘If the DPO, a senior Police officer could be manhandled and had such treatment meted out to him, I should naturally be worried about what would become the fate of the ordinary and innocent citizens of the state who have no single form of protection. As a qualified lawyer and a  federal  lawmaker, I know the implications of illegal possession of arms and ammunition and I will never engage in such.  They can search my house if there is the need for that, you can actually ask anybody, I don’t encourage thuggery in any form and that has always been my advice to the youths which forms the basis of the various empowerment programmes launched to the benefits of my constituents’, he said.
