There is discomfort right now in the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has allegedly ordered that its secretariat and other structures on the axis be demolished.

According to information, the State intends to use the entire land on the Oke-Ilewo/Zone 11 for a huge project, called “Abeokuta Mega City Project”.

In this regard, the government few weeks ago served the occupants and owners of structures along this axis a notice to vacate their buildings within seven days.

Recall that the State government had begun demolition of structures at the old secretariat opposite NUJ secretariat to build a Mega Shopping Mall but work had since not commenced at the site for the past two years.

Meanwhile, the members of the Executive Council of the NUJ, led by their Chairman, Comrade Oluwole Sokunbi have started serious lobbying of top government officials to prevail on the governor to jettison his plans.

According to a source, the Council had made concerted efforts to the Presidency to appeal to Amosun to reconsider his decision.
