Lepers in Abeokuta have called on Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo to prevail on Ogun State government and notable Nigerians to assist in uplifting their proper wellbeing. They also appealed to the Egba monarch to facilitate developmental programmes and capacity building.

The Baale of Lepers’ colony in Abeokuta, Elder John Odunawo made the call on Tuesday when delegates from Alake visited the colony to donate gift items in commemoration of 75th birthday of the monarch.

Elder Odunawo appreciated the monarch for his continued welfare over the colony since ascending the throne. The lepers equally pleaded with Oba Gbadebo over the deplorable condition of the church in the colony.

He said,” We sincerely appreciate the Alake for so many things that we would not want to start mentioning but we pray that he will continue to reign in peace. His reign will continue to bring happiness to the entire Egbaland. “Before now, the monthly support fund, which the government gave us has not been regular but with the intervention of the Alake, I can boldly tell you now that the government is not owing us a dime.

“But, please most of us here are Christians and the condition of our church is very bad and we do not have the financial muscle to rebuild the church and that is why we are sending you to our dear monarch to please help us do something about it very fast.” Responding, leader of the Alake’s delegates, Seriki of Egbaland, High Chief Tosin Fadare assured the lepers of quick response to their request adding that, the monarch would look into their demands.

His words,” We would deliver your message to the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egba land, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo and we can assure you that actions will be expedited on your request.

“Also we that have come here today will as well look at how and what we can do in respect to your request.” The delegates therefore visited Stella Obasanjo Children’s Home and Stephen Children’s Centre in Abeokuta with gift items such as yams, bags of rice, branded shirts among others.
