Lagos Central Senatorial District Leaders Meet

In a bid to ensure good governance,  accountability and for democracy  to continue to thrive and flourish, The Lagos Central Senatorial District Leadership forum  under the Chairmanship of Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi met on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Yaba LCDA Secretariat, Musiliu Smith Street, Adekunle, Ebute Metta, Lagos.

The meeting which was also attended by other Senatorial  Leaders including Omoba Murphy Adetoro, Otunba Oyemade, Mr Wale Edun, Alh. Mutiu Are,  Alh. G.O. Aro Lambo, Hon. Wale Oshun, Chief A.O Adenekan, Alh. Tunde Balogun and a host of others commenced with some minutes silence in memories of late Mr. Olajide Babajide Tinubu, the son of the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Late Mrs. Rashedat Kofoworola Omotobora, the daughter of Prince T.O Olusi, the Senatorial Leader.  The Forum has been serving as a veritable vehicle for providing advice,  for planning and strategizing for election matters  and most importantly, it is used to deliberate on issues affecting the party and the well being of the  Senatorial District. It is also a platform designed  for addressing issues and proffering solutions to looming crises in the Lagos Central Senatorial District.

The Forum comprises of past and present following set of people from the District: Honourable  Members of the National Assembly, Lagos State House of Assembly members, Exco Members,  Chairmen of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas, Party State Officers,  Local government Party Chairmen,  Heads of government Agencies and Parastatals among others. The Forum is also an avenue for elected and appointed officers to give feedbacks on their stewardship to the  Leadership. For instance, Comrade Kamal Salau Bashua,  who is the  Executive Chairman of Lagos Island East LCDA who also doubles as the Vice Chairman (Central) of Conference 57 and Mr. Babatude Durosinmi Etti, the Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creations and Employment were invited to brief the meeting on the activites of the LGAs and LCDAs under the district in the last 100 days and the activities of the Ministry as it has impacted on the well- being of the District in the last one year. Furthermore, the Forum is also used to disseminate information on recent events and happenings across the state in general and the District in particular to   relevant stakeholders. For example, it was reported during the meeting that Alhaji Moruf Ojora has been appointed the Chairman of the LGA Chairmen under the District.
The report  of Mr. Babatunde Durosinmi Etti,  was presented by Mr. Adewunmi Oni, Head of Micro Enterprise, Lagos State Employment Trust Funds.

The  presentation was based on the usefulness and importance of  Loanable Funds. Particularly, low interest loans and  how to access them. He submitted  that The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (“LSETF” or “the Fund”), was established by The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund Law 2016 to provide financial support to residents of Lagos State, for job, wealth creation and to tackle unemployment. LSETF serves as an instrument to inspire the creative and innovative energies of all Lagos residents and reduce unemployment across the State. The Fund has the mandate to directly invest N25Billion in helping Lagos residents grow and scale their Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (“MSMEs”) or acquire skills to get better jobs. He concluded that the District has benefited up to the tune of 1 billion Naira out of the 4 billon Naira that is available for the three Senatorial Districts in the state. He further stated that LSETF will focus on promoting entrepreneurship by improving access to finance, strengthening the institutional capacity of MSMEs and formulating policies designed to improve the business environment in Lagos State. He concluded by saying that

the Fund expects to create 300,000 direct and 600,000  indirect jobs within three years, by supporting at least 100,000 MSMEs. Comrade Kamal Salau Bashua on the other hand, highlighted some of the Programmes, Projects  and Policies of the 13 LGAs and LCDAs under the Districts in the last 100 days.

On the issue of controversies generated by the lists of SLGs and Supervisory Councillors recently released by the State Government, Prince T.O. Olusi appealed to members to be calmed. He said “there are bound to be crisis in any human interactions, the ability to resolve amicably is very cogent. In politics, interest will always clash and people will always feel aggrieved. We must continue to work together as a party, as a team and as a one United Family.” On the  performance of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi praised Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on his achievements so far in some areas of development such as roads and other infastructures , Security of Lives and Properties, Tourism, Heath and Education Sectors and gave him a pass mark. “In my opinion and by all standards, Ambode has scored excellent so far in his performance. He has been rated the Best Performing Governor in the Federation of Nigeria and we are proud of him.

And he advised the Newly Elected Local Government Chairmen to emulate the governor. He told them to be upright, keep up the good work, remain focused and be good ambassadors of the party in particular and the state in general.
