The Caretaker Committee members currently overseeing the affairs of local government councils in Kwara State are in a happy mood. Following the expiration of tenure of the former elected chairmen, Caretaker Committees were constituted for the 16 local government areas. The interim chairmen had three months tenure but good news came when the interim chairmen got an additional three months. The chairmen got more elated and got a guarantee of keeping their seats at least for the next three months following the recent statement by the governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The governor attributed the extension of the initial three months tenure of local government transition implementation caretaker committees, TIC, by another three months to the current economic realities in the country.

He spoke at the monthly meeting of the All Progressives Congress, (APC). Gov Ahmed said the local government councils in the state are just in the process of getting stabilized in meeting basic requirement of the LG workers. “To attempt any election at that level of governance now will mean an additional pressure on the meagre resources.”

The governor, however, promised to use the expected 25 percent of the Paris-London loan refund to assist the local government councils offset part of their outstanding salary arrears and on critical infrastructure development in the state
