Kemi Adetiba’s surprising smash, King of Boys is still making big moves, dominating the box office for a fifth consecutive week since its late-October opening weekend, wherein the movie became the seventh Nollywood movie to gross beyond N100 million. It’s an achievement that has palpably left Adetiba feeling excited on her Instagram, and a source at FilmOne Distribution hinted that King of Boys has currently made N160 million.

According to the same source, the movie is on its way to earning over N200 million at the box office as well as equal in the staggering records of Black Panther and The Wedding Party.

It’s noteworthy that Adetiba movie as a director was the 2016 romantic drama ‘The Wedding Party’, an EbonyLife Films project that grossed over N200 million at the cinema. Adetiba didn’t return to make The Wedding Party but her sophomore feature is increasingly showing that she’s no fluke. Reviews for King of Boys have been overwhelmingly positive, praising Adetiba’s masterful dexterity and attention to detail. Next year’s award season will have the movie being a major recipient.

With a peerless performance from Sola Sobawale, Adesua Etomi, Toni Tones and rapper Reminisce making his Nollywood debut, this quartet along with Adetiba are all on their way for some crazy award season popularity. If you do intend to see the movie this weekend, brace yourself because the runtime is overlong.
