Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Senator Kabiru Gaya was around in Ilorin penultimate week. The Kano State former governor during a courtesy call on Governor Abdul fatah Ahmed disclosed that there are nine federal projects ongoing in Kwara State, six in Kogi State while there are nine in Niger State, the 8th Senate according to him also remains committed to the present administration’s effort at providing enduring infrastructures for the nation’s growth and development. Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed also called for more Federal Government presence and involvement in the efforts aimed at recording infrastructural developments in the state. Such projects and interventions will, according to him bring financial reprieve to the state through savings that will consequently be devoted to the rehabilitation of the state roads which will also result in the attraction of investments to the state. Gov. Ahmed who appealed to the federal government to particularly facilitate the construction of the Kaiama-Kishi Road noted that the road stretches from Lagos to Sokoto passing through Ogun, Oyo, Kwara and Kebbi states, said the portion that links Kaiama-Kishi is very critical because the people there are predominantly agrarian and they contribute heavily to the agricultural revenue that accrues to the people and the state. Governor Ahmed gave assurances that his administration will continue to collaborate with the federal government through the oversight functions of the National Assembly in order to take the roads to usable levels that will ease movement of goods and services across the country and beyond. He also commended the federal government for the interventions made in respect of road projects in the state, stating that the most critical area that can truly support the current efforts made towards getting the nation’s economy revitalized is agriculture which he said has a value chain to recruit people in the primary, secondary and the tertiary levels. ‘Good roads will encourage investments in agriculture and processing. This will in turn begin to reduce levels of unemployment’, he said.
