Alhaja Modinat Asabi Barytide is the new Amira for Professional Islamic Musicians Artistes International Association (PISMAN), she is a stakeholder and one of the most-sought-after among Islamic artistes in Nigeria. Daughter of the late fuji Legend, Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, her total commitment in moving the musical dynasty forward has become a quest she won’t compromise. Having risen to stardom through music as it reigns in the family, Barytide has also delved into politics, steering the wheel of progress of an Islamic musical association forward. She spoke in an interview with AKIN SOKOYA. Excerpts:

Coming Out New

My name is Alhaja (Dr.) Modiant Asabi Barytide. I give all supplications to Almighty Allah who has made the journey a beautiful one. I have just completed work on my new album titled Osu Ike (Ramadan, a blessed month). It’s my new album that I featured some notable acts. Among them are Abass Obesere, Iya-n-Kaola, Sofiyat Otibiya; Muri Thunder; Sasili Ijebu and others. The project is a special one dedicated for the month of Ramadan. This is unique because my pattern of music in this new album is a new thing entirely. I have never done such. The lyrics, the music, people’s performance, everything came with a difference and class!

How We Laboured In Vain In ISMAN…

We thank God that the association we came together to form some months ago has really come to stay. Having been in existence for two years with tremendous success stories; the organization has really come to stay. Professional Islamic Musicians Artistes International Association (PISMAN) is an association that has really liberated Islamic artistes from slavery and unreasonable submission to powers that had nothing for its members. When we were in ISMAN; we worked and laboured in vain.   We did put all we had in the association and got nothing in return. Now, we are better off and doing great in our endeavours. Members that have attained stardom continue to soar higher while the upcoming too are rising to stardom by the day. We are for peace and piety of Islam. Anything that would speak ill of the noble religion we practise, we will never do it. More so, we are ready to work with anybody once the basis of the relationship does not go against the holy qura’an and the teaching of the Holy Prophet. With Alhaji Ibrahim Olanrewaju Tidibodo, our National President at the helm of affairs, the association is doing fine and working with him as his Amira, my duties and contributions to the association have really been meaningful.

Life After Barrister’s Death…

Barrister was a special human being; even in death, his good work lives as if the musical legend is still very much around. We knew better when he was gone. As long as I live, I will continue to appreciate God for the opportunity he gave me being one of Doctor Sikiru Ayinde’s children.

The family is doing great, everything is fine. First, we appreciate God who made us outlive him though we were sad to lose him but after his demise, it has been all well and good. No record of calamity or discord in the family.

Part of our arrangement in the family is having his posthumous birthday on every 9th of February at Fuji Chamber in Isolo where he lived all his life and buried. The 9th of February was his birthday and a special day in his life while alive. Besides this, I organize remembrance party in his name every December and this has been over the years. After his death, I have been able to move our musical dynasty forward, I have travelled around the world with my music, UK, Dubai, Mecca and other places. Upon my return, I was given a special chieftaincy title, The Amira Shuarai of Nigeria.

Oh yes, there’s an old album my Late dad did with the title “Ori mi e wo ni n se”, I am working on that album with full emulation of how it was sung and composed by him. There are other ones I am working on as well.

Barrister’s Fans And My Music

Could you believe one thing, most of his fans are now mine. Despite being an Islamic artiste, I am their musician any time they have an event. Most of my fans today are people that are core Barrister’s fans. I wasn’t taken by surprise when that phase came in my life. My late dad did say before he passed on that at a certain stage in Barytide’s musical career, one side of her would be full of Islamic music while the other side would be pure fuji and that prophecy from the Fuji Lord has really come to pass. This is a proof that Barrister’s music lives on. When I go out for shows anywhere, even beyond the shores of Nigeria, people would always ask for Barrister’s song and when they do, that would really spark the fire in me.
