As the gubernatorial election slated for the 22nd of September in Osun State draws near, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has tasked the political actors from the Iwo Federal Constituency on the need to pursue their political aspirations with the needed commitment stressing that opportunities do not come on a platter of gold. The monarch made the call when a former Osun State SSG, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade visited his palace. A
kinbade, a PDP gubernatorial aspirant was there to seek his royal blessings.
While condemning the decisions by politicians in the area to take different lanes which he said had gotten the Iwo axis denied several opportunities, the top monarch consequently warned those he classified as the ‘political rebels’ to take steps that will result in positive advantages for Iwo city or risk the wrath of the ancestors of the ancient town. Another PDP governorship hopeful, Otunba Adebayo Waliyu Oladosu Rovet was also at the palace to seek royal blessing of the Oluwo on Wednesday.. Otunba Waliyu who submitted that seeking the blessings of the prominent Oba and that of the entire indigenes of Iwoland is considered important and mandatory stating that he couldn’t have gone ahead to declare his intention to vie for the governorship position without securing the support of the people of his hometown and the royal father in particular. In his remarks, the Oluwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, reiterated his commitment to the ‘Iwolokan’ agenda, stating that it is not open to compromise.
The first class monarch made it abundantly clear and sent messages to the appropriate quarters particularly the leadership of the PDP and the other political parties not to make the mistake of not fielding someone among his subjects as the candidate. The people of Iwoland will according to him only vote for the party that gives the ticket to an indigene of Iwo regardless of the platform.
Among the traditional rulers that joined the monarch in receiving the guber aspirants are ; the Ologburo of Ogburo, Oba Asimiyu Sodeeq Agboluaje, Onisaji of Oke Isaji, Oba Alade Akinade, Olota of Ilota, Oba Adetunji Akano, Onikoyi of Ikoyi, Oba Abdulafeez Badeji Adigun, Alawuje of Awuje, Oba Oladosu Agbaje Akinlawon, Oloja of Agberire, Oba Alajide and some Chiefs
