Indications have emerged that Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi will on Saturday in a rally declare his intention to contest the July 24, Ekiti State governorship election.

Fayemi who was the governor of the state between 2010 and 2014 revealed this to newsmen at his Isan-Ekiti country home few days ago.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said he chose Saturday for his formal declaration at the state party secretariat because he does not want to disregard the directives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He premised his decision to vie for the seat again on what he described as the pangs of poverty, frustrations and misery of Ekiti people and not just his personal ambition.

Fayemi had earlier met with members of his ward, local government and state executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and cautioned members and aspirants against campaign of calumny.

He enjoined them to shun acts of discord and work towards a common goal to wrest power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July.

The minister also issued a red card to the party amidst cheers from the mammoth crowd of party supporters that graced the meeting.

“Whoever we are supporting, let them tell us their manifestoes and what they intend to do for the people to the public and not to bring down other aspirants. Election can’t be won on social media. Let us mobilize our people to come out and vote for APC. What we must not do is to denigrate any aspirant because he is not our preferred candidate. Party is owned by both members and aspirants and not the other way round.

“We must follow and adhere to INEC rules and regulation and constitution of the party. The electioneering according to INEC will start April 14, exactly three months to the election.”

Meanwhile, Fuji dancehall master Amb. Sulaimon Adio Atawewe { Akile 1 } is the artiste that will be leading other entertainers to the declaration rally.

When we spoke with the campaign team on why Atawewe is the choice of the minister, they said the minister is a man of class and he is not a loud aspirant. “We need an easy and calm artiste and Atawewe was chosen”.
