Senator Bala Ibn Na Allah needs no introduction in Nigerian politics
and he is the current Deputy Senate Leader. Na’Allhan
represents his good people of Kebbi South Senatorial District in Abuja Red Chamber.
Na’Allah in an interview with news men shortly after being conferred
with an award at the 10th Anniversary and awards presentation organised
by the Association of Kebbi indigenes in Kaduna spoke on some national issues and politics in his country home, Kebbi. Abubakar Abba was there for Global Excellence. Excerpt:
Most Nigerians have been complaining about President Buhari’s government, especially the
present economic recession in the country; what is your comment on
this?
I think the people should try as much
as possible to separate the duties of Mr. President and that of
the governors and local government chairmen. The constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria has made the three tiers of government responsible to the citizens of Nigeria. Mr. President should not be blamed for all the problems in the country. I think it is unfair. The governor of a
state and the local governments’ chairmen are the people that are closer to the grassroots.
The states and local governments should improve the economy of their states for the benefit of their citizens.
There is this agitation in your country home Kebbi to contest for
governorship election in 2019; how true is this?
God has a reason for everything, if it is the wish of God that I will
become the governor in 2019, so be it but for now, I have not called
one single person from Kebbi that I want to be a governor.
I am only interested in the progress and unity of my state. The leadership in place should assist greatly in improving the standard of living of
people of Kebbi.
What is your relationship with your people?
It’s very difficult to determine the relationship of politician and his
people but the fact that my people elected me is a
signal to you that there is an excellent relationship between me and
my people. This is not the first time that I have been elected to represent my people, I was a member of
House of Representatives on two occasions and now a senator. I think, this will give you a
clear picture about my relationship with my people.
At an occasion you talked about unity among Kebbi people, could you shed more light?
We have been blessed in Kebbi State, we have over 48 serving and retired Brigadier-Generals and Colonels
in the Nigerian Army and no state has produced this number of generals. We have doctors, lawyers and others.
