Alake Honours Egba Indigenes At 75th Birthday

As part of activities marking the 75th birthday anniversary of Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, about 11 sons and daughters of Egbaland have been decorated with chieftaincy titles. 

The weeklong birthday ceremony which commenced on Monday features a visit to Stella Obasanjo Children’s Home, Ibara, Lepers’ Colony, Iberekodo and Stephens Children Centre, Obantoko, Abeokuta. But on Thursday, the Alake conferred chieftaincy titles on some notable indigenes of the state including a legal luminary, Dr. Yemi Oke.

Oke, who was conferred as Bada Bamofin of Egbaland and wife Erelu Bada Agbegba Aje of Egbaland was decorated alongside a prominent textile merchant, Chief Folashade Amode who was also conferred with chieftaincy title of Imole Aje of Egbaland. But while decorating the new chiefs, Oba Gabdebo charged them to always be good ambassadors of Egbaland by living up to the standard of their titles. 

The Alake therefore prayed for prosperity and peaceful co-existence among Egba sons and daughters. Among those who were conferred with chieftaincy titles include Chief Victor Abiodun Adebayo as Aare Bobagunwa of Egbaland, Chief Jonathan Oluwole Odekunle as Bada Asojuoba of Egba, Chief(Mrs) Abisoye Oduntan as Erelu Asiwaju Baamofin, Chief Adejare Sobayo as Elebute Egba, Chief Gabriel Adeyemi Oduntan as Baamofin of Egbaland.

The birthday was rounded up with a church service on Friday and a colourful reception at Marque event centre, Obasanjo Presidential Library, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
